Help after the delivery The most common calls for help regard lactation (nursing). The first call you make for nursing questions should be you at the hospital. All will offer referrals to lactation consultants or organizations. We recommend the following additional places for help:
Laleche League They will send someone to your home to help you out and provide great referrals. Call them 24 hours a day at: 206-521-1336 Or visit them online at: www.nwlink.com/~ahulse/lllwa.html
Breastfriends Offer support and referrals. A wealth of information online! Or visit them online at: http://www.breast-friends.org/
Many women like to have someone hired to help them after the delivery. The three following options are the most common:
Housekeeper If you already have one, hire her for extra hours following the birth of your baby. Anything you can do to give yourself time to recover and time to spend just holding and nursing your baby is great. Prices vary from $8.00 an hour to $40.00 and up.
Nanny A nanny can help you with that care of your new baby or the care of your older children. Prices vary from $20 per hour to $50 per hour and up.
Post Partum Doula I always explain the role of a post partum doula as a woman who would be your dream mother-in-law without any of the issues attached! She cooks, cleans, runs errands, holds the baby while you sleep or shower, is trained in lactation and can help you with nursing issues. She’ll cook you a warm meal and wash the dishes afterwards! Prices vary but average around $25 an hour. For referrals to Postpartum doulas, please click here
